Obsnap Sales & Application Executive was providing a hands on training for Defelsko ultrasonic thickness gauge Positector 200 and a Pull-Off Adhesion Tester PosiTest AT-M. The customer is a Japan public listed company that is specialized in precast concrete. It is a project from Singapore government’s MRT project, and the instruments are meant to measure the paint thickness on the precast concrete and also its paint adhesion on the concrete. Mr Jeffri, QC Executive asst. was using the Pull-Off Adhesion Tester  like a “pro” right after the training.

How to measure the zinc coating thickness  on a steel wire of 3mm diameter

Obsnap product specialist used an Elektrophysik Coating Thickness Gauge model: MiniTest 735 F05M-90. Firstly, we calibrate the coating Thickness Gauge MiniTest 735 F05M-90 by performing zeroing on the uncoated 3mm steel wire, and then followed by  calibrate on 1st and 2nd thickness standards. We then store the calibration setting into the Batch memory for easy and accurate measurement whenever we need to measure on this 3mm diameter wire.
The gauge was then ready to take coating thickness measurement precisely to 0.75% accuracy. As you can see, the zinc coating thickness measurement on steel wire were at 32.55 and 33.05 microns.

HACCP The Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points system classifies risks to food consumers into three categories—biological, chemical, & physical.Food safety professionals JS Analytical, contribute effort to eliminate food consumer physical risks by providing Sesotec’s Raycon, an X-ray Inspection & Sorting system and Metal Detector with Separation System to the food companies. Foreign physical material is defined as foreign bodies that may cause illness or injury to the consumer, e.g. stones, broken glass, metals, plastics etc. These foreign materials account for a high percentage of customer complaints because physical hazards are easily identified by the consumer. The hazards include; biting into a piece of metal, chipping a tooth, injury by a broken glass or choking on a piece of plastic are all dramatic incidents.

Coating Thickness Testing

 

Coating thickness testing is an important process for manufacturers of steel fabrication, automotive parts, electrical appliances and many others that apply some sort of coating onto the finished products. The coated thickness is going to be the critical decisive factor whether sufficient protection against corrosion has been achieved. In these tests, coating thickness on various points of a product are measured. They are then refers to the standard coating thickness necessary to ensure long term protection . The coating thickness need vary according to industries, each has respective coating material and targeted coating thickness requirement.

The Overview:
WSA Engineering Sdn Bhd is focused on manufacturing automotive interior parts like headliner, floor car carpet, package tray, door trim and etc. The company is operated under WSA Group, which was established in 1995. WSA Engineering is first started with supplying headliners to Perodua, an automobile manufacturer. Now, WSA has partners with numerous other OEM manufacturers and assemblers include Volkswagen, Volvo, BMW, Mercedes, Honda, Isuzu, Hyundai, and Nissan. In the past 10 years, WSA group has performed beyond the expectations. The growth can be seen especially in increasing of products and services, increasing in the number of new clients and partners. 
The Requirements:
As a company that serves a multitude of customers. WSA’s management realized that it was not an ideal situation to out-source the products to testing labs. They need the ability to quote more work and reduce out-source testing expenses. Also, they do not want to waste time waiting for long queue at testing labs, subsequently delayed on customer projects. They would like to do test in-house. They look for a Walk-in Temperature and Humidity Chamber as their products were large in dimension. Also, the chamber must complete with up to date technology that offer various testing combinations for their immediate needs as well as for future prospects. Another factor of consideration was looking for a solution that could simulate infrared heat by using infrared lamps, allowing WSA to perform on tasks that require to test on product’s surface temperature (100 ˚ C to 120 ˚C). 
The Solution:
WSA management’s team called for meeting with few suppliers and attended their proposal’s presentation. After deep evaluation and comparison, the management team decided to purchase MERIDIAN chamber. The chamber besides meeting all their requirements, they were impressed on MERIDIAN specialist’s product knowledge and application experiences. The main factor of choosing MERIDIAN system was the quality performance of the system. The system is using renowned mechanical and electrical part manufacturers that originate from Europe, USA, Japan and Korea. The walk in humidity and temperature chamber is designed with latest up to date technology, which can perform cyclic tests of temperature, humidity, surface temperature simulation by infrared lamps, and sunlight effect.  
MERIDAN chamber was built and tested in factory prior to shipment to ensure a trouble-free during installation. Due to huge size 41.5m3, the chamber was disassembled for shipment and re-build in WSA production floor by 5 engineers. The chamber was tested on performance, uniformity of temperature and humidity test by the engineers. After the chamber was fully installed, personnel from WSA were trained on chamber system, application, controller and software.  
Customer’s Feedback:
WSA has seen a cost savings due to the fact that they now have the capability to do their testing in house, instead of having to outsource. Additionally, having this solution in house allows WSA to take advantage of MERIDIANs technology and utilize the chamber as much as possible to test the finished products on certain respective testing standards as well as improve in research and development for product quality control. Overall, WSA is pleased to have MERIDIAN Walk-in Temperature and Humidity Chamber to support their automotive products test programs.
